A Day for Dave

When more than a thousand people gather at LoanDepot Park to surprise and celebrate you – you know you’ve built a legacy that has changed lives. We all pulled it off on December 3rd – with crowds of people filing into the ballpark to honor 83 year-old Dave Lawrence, Jr, the longtime Miami Herald publisher who felt called to advocate for children and establish The Children’s Trust. Because of Dave’s tireless work & devotion, every child in Florida has access to free PreK4, and he has shaped lives for generations to come.

I’ll never forget the handwritten note I received from Dave when I first started anchoring the news in Miami at Channel 7. The publisher of The Miami Herald himself was welcoming a fellow journalist to South Florida and encouraging me to keep raising the bar. Even back in 1998, a handwritten letter was a rarity, and I’ll treasure that note forever.

Dave & his wife have been married for 62 years. They have 5 children and 7 grandchildren. They recently lost their 8-year-old twin granddaughters, Hanna + Rebecca to the fatal floods at Camp Mystic in Texas. Dave’s words to the crowd: Always tell people you love them & why.

I recently helped 2 of my executive coaching clients to get their hair & makeup done professionally, and then I poked & prodded at them in a 30-minute photo session with 2 outfits & jewelry changes. Now they each have 3 updated looks they love for LinkedIn, professional bios & articles.

Pro Tip #1: lose the white blouse under a blazer – passé!

Pro Tip #2: if you don’t want to spend the money for a professional, grab a recent photo you like & start playing with AI. See if you can create a really updated look – that still looks like you!
